Compound Tires

why are formula 1 tyres so grippy?compound or pressure?in dry conditions should one use tyres without grooves?

It is a mxture of compund and pressure. The tyre we use are all weather tires, so though driving with slicks will give excellent grip in the dry, what happens when it rains!!
