Manifold Header
How much to replace header (exhaust manifold) on a 1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport?
That's about it. Have the usual crack in my exhaust header. Debating doing it myself or having a mechanic do it for me. How much would you think a mechanic would charge?

If you have the inline six engine (or inline four) it's dead easy. But first ask your mechanic or whomever if the manifold is cracked or if the gaskets are bad. There's a gasket against the engine, and there's a gasket going to the rest of the exhaust pipes. If it's a gasket, there's no point in spending big money on anything else.
See the lower set of tubes on the engine? That's the exhaust manifold.
When buying one, make sure it comes with a complete set of gaskets. Also make liberal use of PB Blaster or WD40 or whatever you're comfortable with.
Since a jeep isn't really a high performance engine (no turbos, no high pressure exhaust), you can also use muffler repair tape. Spend a little to get a lot here - the stuff is expensive but a lot less expensive than a new exhaust manifold. Make sure the manifold is very clean before you attempt to tape it. Also this is only good if you actually have cracks.

Is there a way you can check for exhaust manifold/headers leaks?
Hello, is there something that I could safely spray onto the area where the headers and engine meet that would show I had a leak
like would it suck the air in, idle change, etc....
also what could be used safely without damaging anything?
Dish soap and warm water in a spray bottle while it is at an idle. this only works if the engine is still cold once it warms up your out of luck
